The fourth round of the 2019 WESS season heads to Hixpania Hard Enduro in Aguilar de Campoo (Spain) this weekend and we’re seeing Germany’s Manuel Lettenbichler (1,960 points, KTM) leading the current ranking with 190 points lead on Mario Roman (1,770 points, Spain, Sherco) who is in second place and Erzbergrodeo winner Graham Jarvis (1,690 points, UK, Husqvarna) in third. Red Bull Romaniacs - "Sweet 16“ Edition will be round number 5 on July 30 - August 3, 2019 in Sibiu, Romania.
Live broadcast Prolog & Off-road Race Day 4
We’re excited to announce that the Red Bull Media House will provide extensive live broadcasts of the "Sweet 16" Prolog on July 30, 2019 and the final Off-road Race Day 4 on August 3, 2019 on Red Bull TV. The action from the legendary inner city Prolog on July 30 and Race Day 4 on August 3 – especially from the notorious hill climb finish at Gusterita – will be transmitted live into the living rooms and computers of all of those who couldn’t make it to Sibiu.
Live Timing
Even though the live timing has been around for a number of years it has constantly been improved over time. It’s gotten a lot more accurate and advanced. The characteristics of Red Bull Romaniacs make the live timing a unique challenge: The distance of a single off-road day can be up to 200km+ with checkpoints in the back country where connectivity is hard to find. Since the live timing is based on transmitting data from where the action is, it’s obvious that getting an accurate live timing up and running reliably requires an advanced planning and execution. To be more specific this is what we’re actually providing:
Live Timing @ Prolog
During the Prolog time trial qualification on July 30, 2019 viewers can see the ranking of each of the competitors. In the Prolog Finals race for the 35 qualified competitors, the competitor’s race progress can be viewed live, it shows the number of laps and the time taken for each lap.
Live Timing during off-road Race Days 1-4
Family, friends and fans who can’t make it to Sibiu can view the competitors race progress during the four off-road days: which competitors are leading in any of the classes at each checkpoint and can view the ranking of any competitor during the race. Competitors can be searched for and their race progress can be found by selecting either their name, Bib number or nationality.
These interactive ’detailed results’ are shown throughout the day, the race time differences between competitors are also displayed. Moreover, competitors overall race progress can be viewed live during the race so you can see not only who is winning the day’s race but also who is the "overall" winner of the event and the time differences between competitors.
To view the results webpages during the event go to this link on our website. The 2019 results will appear once the event has begun.
Live News
Red Bull Romaniacs was one of the first, if not the first, hard enduro event to provide the international audience with what we used to call live blogging in the past. While blogging is usually a form of communication with a rather personal focus and style we’ve decided to increase the quality of our live communication services in various aspects and call it "Live News“ instead: First of all we will have different teams with different focuses during the race days. There will be a Live News team primarily covering the start, checkpoints, tank points and the finish. Other teams will ride their enduro bikes to capture the action first hand at the signature sections and wherever the prime spots are.
While this structure is not totally new and the transformation of blogging to live news had been initiated already in 2018, we’ve added a Live Team manager who will permanently work from the Red Bull Romaniacs headquarters being able to access the race director’s office at all times. All the information, photos and videos will be sent to the Live Team headquarters and immediately be checked, validated and published by the Live Team manager so that the audience will be provided with stories that make sense and comply with the "Five W's“ (who, what, when, where, why).
Red Bull Romaniacs with the most nations
The Red Bull Romaniacs has not ceased to attract competitors from all over the world. Currently we’re looking at 50 countries - and counting! Number 1 in the list is the UK with currently 79 competitors so far, followed by Germany with 60 and Australia with 31. But it's not only the Australians who are travelling a long way: Mexico is represented with 25 competitors, New Zealand with 16 and Israel with 13 and we’re honored that Red Bull Romaniacs will welcome competitors from countries such as Hong Kong, American Samoa and Indonesia.
Cooperations with various brands
Tire brands: Metzeler and X-Grip
There will be two tire brands present at this years Red Bull Romaniacs Sweet 16 Edition: Metzeler and X-Grip. Both companies will have sales booths in the paddock.
Metzeler – being part of the Pirelli group - was one of the first larger tire brands to develop products that would fit the specific needs and requirements of hard enduro. The Red Bull Romaniacs track managers are actually testing Metzeler tires during their long and restless days in the Romanian wilderness providing feedback to the manufacturer. 'Metzeler products can be ordered online here.
X-Grip is run by Benjamin Diesel – an experienced hard enduro competitor who has finished in Silver and Gold Class at Red Bull Romaniacs before and whom you might have met in a number of races. Lars Enöckl – Red Bull Sea to Sky winner in 2016 – is a proud member of the X-Grip family. They will not only sell tires, mousse and the rest of the portfolio, but they will also offer mounting and support. The products can be pre-ordered on a page dedicated to Red Bull Romaniacs.
Cooperation with 100% - Save your Eyes
We’re excited to announce a special cooperation with 100% - a brand that has been around since the early 80’s and that is producing the highest quality off-road goggles. Make no mistake, if you ruin your eyes the game of riding a bike is over.
To help the competitors from more than 50 countries to protect their eyes 100% will provide googles free of charge to each competitor of Red Bull Romaniacs “Sweet 16” Edition. And if the competitors wear the 100% goggles during the race they will get a clean exchange at 2 tank points to start off again with clear sight!
Liqui Moly partner for mixed and separate lubrication
Our standing partner Liqui Moly will continue to provide the 2T bike-additives that the Red Bull Romaniacs staff will use to prepare the two-stroke fuel at the tank points and will hand out the additives in the paddock for bikes with separate oil supply.
About Red Bull Romaniacs
The Red Bull Romaniacs Hard Enduro Rallye was created in 2004 by founder Martin Freinademetz. Over the past years it has become the world's toughest Hard Enduro Rallye and attracts competitors from about 50 countries each and every year.
The race is spread over five days - five days of pure hard enduro racing action: The event is kicked off with the legendary Prolog - a time trial in downtown Subiu with thousands of enthusiastic fans and followed by four Off-road Race Days. The competitors are taken on some of the world's most beautiful hard enduro tracks in the region around Sibiu, in the Southern Carpathian Mountains of Romania. They'll have to master the art of navigating with GPS devices. The breathtaking wilderness, incredible uphill and downhill sections in a stunning landscape and the professional as well as experienced organization result in the toughest and at the same time most memorable experience for all participants.
