BEHIND THE SCENES - What it takes to pull off the longest and toughest rallye on the hard enduro calendar. The evolution of the digital era of hard enduro.
Red Bull Romaniacs 'The Impossible', Edition 20 is round three of six in the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship this year and will see Gold class professionals and privateers competing for points. FIM World Championship points will also be awarded to the top three finishers in the In-city Prolog making it a no-holds-barred fifteen minute showdown.
The sold out event with 55 nations heading into battle in five different classes features a special anniversary category; the amateur Legends class. Legend status is given to competitors who have competed in at least five editions of the Red Bull Romaniacs and 2023 is the Edition 6. Amongst some of the names are Emanuel Gyenes (ROU) who has finished all 19 editions and Peter Nesuta (AUT) who also competed in all 19 editions and finished in fourteen.

Special guest appearances and live commentary from Cyril Despres (FRA), who dominated the early days of the Red Bull Romaniacs with three overall wins in 2004, 2005, 2007 and Alfie Cox (ZAF), who competed in two early editions of Red Bull Romaniacs both, with a plethora of world titles and multiple Dakar Rally titles, are true legends in the motorcycle world. Commentary will be based not only on their expertise but their comparison from the early days of the rallye to today's level of competition and with reference to the progression of extreme hard enduro and the level of the elite riders of today.
Advanced technology and the evolution in communications.
Red Bull Romaniacs is an innovator and leader in race development and is continually advancing technology. Such advancements as LIVE race progress and timing of the competitors as they reach the check points in the wilderness and in its second year, the LIVEmaniacs daily broadcasts bring the raw hard enduro action to millions of viewers as Gold competitors complete three stages of technical terrain in front of live camera crews. Video footage directly from the tracks is gathered throughout all five days by the Content Creation Team and uploaded in real time to the RBR LIVEnews feed.

The evolution in digital communication has been a game changer in the world of hard enduro and is in part responsible for its growth as well as for opening up the sport to fans and spectators. In the early days, heavily downsized quality web-clips and lower quality, small memory sized photographs were captured by skilled motorbike riders who temporarily became 'official' camera-men. Back then they were the only ones who were able to access the most challenging terrain to actually take photos. In today's world of communications we are able to have international professional teams and equipment out in the wilderness capturing the footage live at the highest resolutions.
Red Bull Romaniacs has maximised this technology with daily Livestreaming productions which are streamed around the globe. Transmissions can also be watched in LIVEstreaming REPLAY for viewers in different time zones and with different schedules.

Hosting an event of this scale requires over five hundred staff and volunteers to pull off all five consecutive days. Staff and volunteers fly to Sibiu from all around the world and local students and volunteers also have the opportunity to be part of the exciting experience. For the core management team it is an all year round occupation.
The large infrastructure involved includes: the "wolf pack" - consisting of track openers, sweepers, wilderness rescue teams, motorcycle mechanics. 'Enduro for Romania' charity.
Since 2016 Red Bull Romaniacs has raised funds for 'Enduro for Romania' as a way to give back to some of the poorer communities who support and welcome the event in their backyards. Enduro clothing and gear that is no longer being used by competitors will be collected at the paddock entrance before and after the event, it is washed and then sold at the entrance to the In-city Prolog to raise funds for designated projects. Official Red Bull Romaniacs merchandise signed by top professional riders will also be available to purchase online to raise funds. The money raised during 2023 will go towards the Oncology Support Centre by 'Sus Inima' Association and Environmental educational projects, starting with educating rural community youth about garbage collection and protecting the local environments from waste.
